IGNITABILITY OF FIBRICS

I perform some burn tests in order to ascertain( to find out) ignitability of different fabrics and to observe their combustion properties. My observations may contain some flaws. But is purely based on burn tests performed by me.

Wool
First I started with wool I wanted to see the burning effect on wool so according to my experiment, Wool is harder to ignite. The flame is steady but more difficult to keep burning cause wool not catch fire easily. When ignited, it smolders and become extinguished giving odour of burning hairs.

 COTTON
According to my experiment cotton is a readily flammable fiber. Light ash was left as residue which was easily crumbled. Fire extinguishes easily by blowing on it and gives burning leaves odour.

DENIM
I observe denim does catch fire but burns slowly with high flame giving white smoke.

FUR
I was very interested to do the experiment with the fur and was really great to know about the burning effect of real fur. Fur burns gradually giving grey smoke. It curls away from heat and tend to melt. Burning fur gives odour of burning hairs or feathers like that.

LEATHER
Its was really interesting experiment when leather undergoes burn process, it doesn’t burn and melt rapidly . In fact it doesn’t actually burn. And curl up into little black roll and gives flesh burning odour.

 SILK
When silk fabric is ignited, it burns rapidly with a steady flame and smells lie burning hair. Silk fibers ash are easily crumbled and is not easily extinguished. Silk bends to fuse and crinkle from flame.
VELVET
When velvet fabric was burn, it caught fire rapidly with a steady flame and gave grayish smoke and left ashes as residue. The burnt part of fabric became black.

LINEN
According to my experiment linen takes longer to burn and is easily extinguished by blowing emits white smoke from low flame.

 PURE LAWN
As per my experiment, lawn burns slowly with low flame giving less smoke. Lawn leaves greasy effect on place where fabric was ignited.

 TISSUE SILK
According to my experiment, when tissue silk undergoes burn test, It ignites and it metls with a normal flame .It smells like burning tyre and gives less smoke.

WHITE GEORGETTE
When white georgette is put to burn test it catches fire, burns and melt. Its flame emits spark and black smoke.

 SILK SATIN
When silk satin is ignited it burns and emits white smoke. Burnt part becomes threat like fabric . While burn process , it gives burning hairs odour.
FANCY TISSUE
When fancy tissue undergoes burn process, it melts and drops off was really amazing effect, with very less smoke and smells like burning tyre.

 QURESHIA
When qureshia undergoes burn process, it catches fire with high flame emitting white grayish smoke and turns fiber into black color.

CORDUROY
When this fabric undergoes burning process, it emits light grey Smoke and burns slowly. Turns the burnt patch of fabric into black color.

 MAT VELVET
Mat velvet catches fire but impact of burn process is very less. Only fades the fabric color. Burnt part of fabric tears like a paper when blown on fire to extinguishes, gives with smoke.

ZARI BROCADE
When zari brocade fabric undergoes burn process, it catches fire easily and rapidly but burns with low flame but fire spreads quickly emitting black smoke from sparkling flame.

 KATAN SILK
This fabric when ignited catches fire easily and burns with a sparkling flame. Fabric tends to burn like a melting plastic and drips when melts.
JAMAWAR
When jamawar undergoes burn process, catches fire easily and rapidly. Burns with flickering flame giving black smoke. Burning jamawar fabric melts just like plastic.

CHIFFON BROSHIA
When chiffon Broshia undergoes burn test, it catches fire and tends to melt. Burning fabric emits black smoke.

NET CHICKEN
When chicken fabric was put to burn test, it catches fire and its flame emitted spark and dense black smoke. Fabric continued to burn, melt and dripped

Dress Making continue

After that I started my sweing machine and stitched the darts and there was not point on the darts and stitched them successfully and I learned this thing as well when I was stitching the fabric just remember to remove the pins otherwise your bobbin case and thread will stuck in the machine.

After stitching the darts I pins the shoulder line almost 1 cm according to the pattern. As you can see in the picture as well.

After pining the Shoulder line I stitched the shoulder line and seams where not pressed to give the neat look to the dress I opened the seams and Its really help you out to understand the procedure of stitching as well.

After that I wanted to attach the hidden zip in the first skirt I wanted to stitch the hidden zip but I didn't know how to stitch then I tried my best to stitch it neatly and rest of the neatness I gave by the hand sewing. So in this dress I wanted to stitch the invisible zip so I download the video and learned it how to stitch the invisible zip for invisible zip you need the invisible zip foot.I mark the 2 cm on the side seam and sitched the side seams of the back and front but I didnt stitch the side seam around 18cm from the shoulder of right side.

After stitching the zip I close the zip and got really great result and it was invisible zip I was so amazed to achieve this step cause I was feeling it will be very tough but was really easy to attach And I cut off the threads cause if the threads came into the zip then zip will be broken so invisible zip is very delicate as well.

After stitching the dress.I applied the fabric art into my dress well this technique I absorbed at Pure London Olympia,I really liked it but couldn't take the picture at exhibition cause they don't allow and then I tried it into my dress.

First I cut the square of the fabric by the hand as you can see in the picture and then I fold the half square its gave me look of triangle then I fold it again and its become like small triangle and to hold it from the pointed area from the top I stitch the fold to not be open.

I stitched many of them and then I place them near by the shoulder and neck line to give the impressive look and the idea was looking very amazing and beautiful on it  and was very easy as well.

When I was done with this technique and stitching.I asked my friend to wear the dress and when wear it I was so surprised there was no dart points or an problem in darts and invisible zip was neatly done and the small fabric pieces were looking amazing as well.I was so happy by the out come of the dress and I really learned so much which I didn't know how to handle or how to make.

Questions:
Work as a garment?
Yes, it is wearable and it can be a day wear or evening wear or casual wear as well .
-Is it Fashion? If so why , If not why not?
It is a fashion dress with a really very beautiful technique and will give you very elegance look.
-What Opening Did I use?
I used hidden zip on Right Side seam (SS).
-What were the problems?
I faced not that much problems in this dress but I was a bit tough to handle the invisible zip but was handled nicely by the help of video.
-What could I do to improve next time?
For the next I will try to research on videos for more idea and techniques cause it is a really useful way to try and apply the techniques.
-What was the Fabric?

-How much Did I use?
 I use 1.5m fabric.

Dress Making

I started to make my dress with the dress block size 12. First I trace out the dress block

then from the hip line I keep the length 10cm cause I wanted to make out a small length dress.According to my design I was done with the pattern after that I added seam allowances on the neck line, arm whole and hem line 1 cm and side seam 2cm.Given the balance mark (notches) as well.I decided as well I will give opening on the side seam.

When I was done with my pattern cutting.I keep the pattern on my fabric and I cut the fabric according to the pattern after that I pin the darts with the fabric pins as you can see here.

And I stitched my darts on front and back as well that was not tough was really easy to handle the darts.

For stitching the darts I take the help from the video like how to stitch the darts cause I don't want to see any point or problem on the bust.So I take the help from the video here is that video and that was really very useful for me and really helped me out.

I captured the picture of my stuff as well for stitching.
